032C
“I started to collaborate with a lot of writers and photographers. That was the idea and the intention of the issue [Issue No. 3, Re-Magazine], to shift my role from author to editor in chief and art director. I found it incredibly difficult to maintain a specific tone of voice throughout the collaborations.”
– Jop van Bennekom (interviewed by Axel J. Wieder) in the Winter 2003/2004 issue of 032c magazine. Purchased in April this year for €15 from do you read me?! in Berlin.
ERIC FISCHER
Flickr-ster (okay, that’s not even a word… but work with me here) Eric Fischer has uploaded a series of seriously ace geotagged maps showing the most photographed locations within various cities. Eric’s calling the series The Geotaggers World Atlas. The result is an interesting and utterly beautiful flickr set. Pictured above is the map for San Francisco. Hats of to you, Eric. Brill idea beautifully executed.

.59p well spent we think. Available on iTunes.
WIRED APP
My first go at the Wired iPad app. Woo-hoo.
First impression… it looks great. Images on the iPad look lush, there’s no denying it. And Wired’s hyperreal finish is perfect for Apple’s high-gloss screen.
I like to know where I am within a magazine. The Wired app is a little disorientating (on first use, mind). The scrubber is not how I remember it in the earlier test demo. Oh… hold on… just found the browser at the top of the app… yep, this helps with navigation greatly. Apologies, the browser’s not shown in the above vid.
Just like the printed magazine, there’s a serious amount of content. It warrants a lot more time to discover all the features and app extras. But on first use… the video is cool, the lego car is well ace and the interactive look at Mars missions (complete with glowing sun in the distance) is class.
The disappointing Interview magazine app left me cold. But Wired has got me excited again. The iPad offers a peek into an exciting touch-screen world; the first Wired app looks to be the perfect partner with which to explore it.
You can check out Wired’s official promo vid here.
Excitingly, magCulture has linked to a NYT article that mentions an InDesign add-on that will enable print designers to also design and build the apps. That’s some serious win right there.
CLARA MONTAGUT
Spanish Esquire’s art director Clara Montagut just sent us this little vid. Serious win.
What do Iggy, Prince and Jon Bon have in common? Well, they’re all on the cover of the new Spanish Esquire. Nice one.
US Esquire published a flip-book cover last year. You can check it out here. The international editions of Esquire are workin’ it. Thumbs up.
In other news, Clara recently participated in a Q&A for Gym Class Magazine #06. It’s ace. The issue goes to press next week… more details very soon.
